Brukental Palace Avrig

LA MAISON DE L'ORFEVRE

Située ŕ Bistrita; construite au XVIe s.; accčs vers la cour par un couloir voűté qui traverse tout le bâtiment; l'atelier et la boutique se trouvaient au rez-de-chaussée; l'étage abritait la demeure du propriétaire; façade en style Renaissance; portail d'entrée sculpté avec raffinement.

Located in the town of Avrig, it dates from 1762; the u-shaped building is made up of ground-floor one storey; quiet style; typical architecture of the baroque palaces of the Hapsburg Empire; during baron Brukenthal's life-time, the main hall was decorated with murals; there were paintings and engravings gathered by him all over the palace; platform laid out garden of the palace, provided with an orangery; deserves to be restored as it is the only garden of a baroque palace in Romania which has been preserved almost entirely; for the time being, the palace houses a Sanatorium of professional diseases.
