BRUKENTHAL Palace, Sibiu

Can be found in Sibiu; built between 1777-1785 by baron Samuel von Brukenthal, Transylvania's governor (1771-1787), in the style of the late Austrian baroque style; its façade with a ground-floor and two storeys is quite impressive; its tall roof has three horizontal registers and unobtrusive decorations; exquisite guest-halls and apartment rooms; richly decorated ceilings with a variety of stucco-work motifs; the two inner courts, i.e. the guests' and the one for the outbuildings are separated by a Renaissance style portal flanked by stone-carved atlantes; at present, it houses the Brukenthal Fine Arts Museum and Library.
