BAZNA
Bazna is a parish in the county of Sibiu, which is made up of three villages, i.e. Bazna, Boian, Velt. Located in the Tarnavelor Plateau, it has an average altitude of 321 m. It notes a population of 3,825 inhabitants, and it is situated only 10 km north-west of Medias.

The parish has two fortified churches one is located at and the other at .The Fortified Church at Bazna was built in 1402 in the Gothic style and turned into a hall-church between 1504 and 1506. It has a sturdy tower, whereas its eastern side ends in a wooden gallery. The polyptychal altar dating from 1430-1440 is decorated with reliefs typical of the Slovakian carving styles (exhibited today at the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu). Several small reliefs dating from the 16th century decorate the Gothic alcove-like tabernacles within the choir wall. One of the most beautiful depicts Jesus in Pain.
The Fortified Church at Boian was built in the 15th century, with fortifications from the 16th century. It looks unitary in its composition, although the defensive setup covers but the rectangular choir over it there is a wall-walk provided with loops
or slits. The northern portal, richly decorated in the Flamboyant style, the rib vault of the choir, the skillfully made window framings bestow a certain elegance upon the edifice which softens its stern overall aspect.
Both churches have remarkable bells made by skillful bronze smelters of the time. Their decoration is simple, but quite remarkable. The bell of the church at Bazna is embellished with grape wine twirls, whereas the bell of the church at Boian depicts the fight of Samson with the lion.
The village of Velt has an Evangelical Church dating from the 15th century that underwent alterations in the 16th, 19th and 20th centuries respectively.
