Situated to the north of the Sibiu county, on the Târnava Rivers' Plateau, in-between Sibiu and Sighisoara; the citadel was raised by the Saxons between the 13th-16th centuries; crafts and trade flourished during the Middle Ages; 63,204 inhabitants (1995) Access by train - Sibiu (56 km), Sighisoara (39 km); by road - DN 14 Sibiu (55 km), DN 14 Sighisoara (37 km).
