Teleky Library

 

Built at Târgu Mures between 1799-1804 by count Samuel Teleki, chancellor of Transylvania (1739-1822); it features the Empire style; in the days of old, it was one of the largest private libraries in Europe (40,000 volumes); at present, it holds 200,000 books and 100 paintings made by Nă¡gy Imre; the books and documents date from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries; among them Codex Koncz holds pride of place, along with other 65 incunabula, 44 first editions and over 1,200 old documents.
